Profile

I completed my Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in 2007 at Macquarie University. Under the supervision of Professor Genevieve McArthur and Associate Professor Matthew Finkbeiner, my honours project investigated the possibility that interference control in bilingual speech production depends upon a general attentional control mechanism. This was explored using both a behavioural measure and event-related potentials (ERPs).

After my honours year, I was pleased to be employed as a RA on the MACCS Reading Training Study working with Professors McArthur and Castles, and Dr Kohnen. During this time, I became interested in children's reading acquisition and in particular when this process is impaired. As such this interest influenced me in undertaking a PhD on "Grapheme-phoneme correspondence knowledge in typical and atypical readers" which I completed in 2013.

Following my PhD I worked as Clinic Coordinator at the Cognition Clinic for Reading at Macquarie University for one year before taking parental leave. In 2016 I worked part-time as Educational Outreach Coordinator at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders, Macquarie University before taking up my current role as postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oslo.

This is a 3-year project to explore Norwegian children’s acquisition and knowledge of grapheme- phoneme correspondences, while also testing theoretical assumptions regarding phonological decoding. It will also explore the role of statistical learning in reading development in children with typical and atypical reading development.
