Profile

My research focuses on causes of, and treatments for, reading difficulties. I am particularly interested in the links between oral language and reading. I am also interested in methods of assessing reading, spelling and oral language difficulties.

I completed a Bachelor of Liberal Studies at the University of Sydney in 2006 and a Masters of Speech Language Pathology at Macquarie University in 2009. After completing my Masters, I worked as a project coordinator for MultiLit (Making Up Lost Time in Literacy), coordinating literacy assessment for indigenous children in Sydney and remote communities. I then commenced my PhD in 2011. My PhD research explored the role of oral vocabulary difficulties in reading comprehension. I have also been involved in the development of reading and spelling assessments for the Macquarie Online Test Interface (MOTif) and recently conducted a project using eye-tracking to measure word learning. I am now at the University of Bristol, running a project exploring the effectiveness of morphological intervention for children with reading difficulties.
