Profile

I completed my Bachelors (2007) and Masters (2009) in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology from Mangalore University, India. I commenced my PhD in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Lyndsey Nickels and Dr. Britta Biedermann. My PhD thesis investigated the consequences of bilingualism on three critical domains of language and cognition: novel word learning, sentence processing and cognitive control. I have studied bilinguals of different age groups (e.g., young, middle aged and older adults), different backgrounds (e.g., Mandarin-English and Malayalam-English) and unique bilingual populations such as bilingual non-literates. I was awarded my PhD in November, 2015.

My research interests lies at the interface between cognitive and linguistic processing in bi/multilingual healthy individuals and people with neurological impairments (e.g., aphasia). Specific research interests are: to examine the effects of bilingualism on language learning (e.g., novel word learning), production (e.g., lexical access), and cognitive control (e.g., conflict resolution) in healthy adults and persons with bilingual aphasia; to evaluate treatment and develop clinical protocols for production deficits in bilinguals aphasia, and to examine the interface between bilingualism and developmental language disorders (e.g., specific language Impairment) and to disentangle bilingualism from specific language impairment.
