Profile

I have a background in Cognitive Hearing Research and completed my PhD research at Linköping University, Sweden, supervised by Professor Björn Lyxell, Professor Birgitta Sahlén, Associate Professor Birgitta Larsby, and Associate Professor Elina Mäki-Torkko.

My PhD thesis investigated cognitive development in prelingually deaf children with cochlear implants (CI). After my PhD research, I was left with the question why many children with CI read surprisingly well despite having poor working memory capacity and poor language skills. The aim of my current research is therefore to explore the reading strategies that children with cochlear implants use. This research also involves children with dyslexia. I am particularly interested in comparing how children in these two groups may compensate for poor phonological skills when learning to read. Children from both Australia and Sweden participate in this research which is performed within a COFAS Marie Curie Fellowship by the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare and the European Commission. This project is a carried out in collaboration with researchers at CCD, Macquarie University, National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), Linnaeus Centre HEAD, Linköping University, Sweden, and Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, Sweden.
