CCD Annual Workshop, Fairmont Resort, Leura, Blue Mountains


This year's annual workshop will be spread over three days with an array of research talks, opportunities for researchers and students to discuss research projects and cross program collaborations, and various other planned activities.

The Fairmont Resort at Leura is on the cusp of the dramatic Jamison Valley in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park, located only one and a half hours drive west from Sydney. The Blue Mountains is a rugged region known for dramatic scenery and encompasses steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and villages dotted with guesthouses, galleries and gardens.

Early Career Researcher/Student Development Workshop

Monday 22 August

Following the successful 2015 Early Career Researcher/Student Development Day, we will again schedule this as part of the Annual Workshop, to be held in the Australian Hearing Hub, Level 1 Lecture Theatre, Macquarie University from 9.30 am - 1.00 pm. Space is limited so please register early. Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided. The workshop will cover advice, planning, and productivity to support our students and early career researchers.

CCD Annual Workshop

Monday 22 August

We will travel by coach to the Fairmont Resort at Leura departing Macquarie University at 1.00pm from the Bus Bay on University Avenue, opposite the Australian Hearing Hub. After group check-in about 3.00pm and some free time the Workshop will commence at 5.00pm with the Student Poster Session followed by the opening Workshop Dinner with an occasional address by Professor Laurent Rivory (Chair, CCD Advisory Board).

Tuesday 23 August

Day 2 will include keynote addresses by visiting international CCD members, Professors Michael Kopelman (Scientific Committee) and Naama Friedmann (Partner Investigator), Program updates and future directions from the Program Leaders, and a Centre Member Poster Session.  Free time will also be incorporated into the program to allow for interaction between researchers and students. We will then come together in the late afternoon / early evening for the second keynote address, Centre Members Poster Session and an informal dinner.

Wednesday 24 August

On the morning of day 3 we will commence with a keynote address by Professor Andy Young (Partner Investigator) followed by speed presentations by the 2015 student winners of the Excellence in Research Award - Publication, and the 2016 student winners of the Excellence in Research Award - Poster. After morning tea we will showcase cross program research with talks by various CCD members before a wrap up session prior to lunch. After lunch, we will depart for Macquarie University (arriving approximately 4.30pm).

Accommodation will be on a twin share basis. If you do not wish to share you can request a single room (at time of registration), which will require a supplement payment of $100 per night ($200 for the two nights). Student Poster Session

This poster session will be for presentations by PhD and postgraduate students. Two awards with a cash prize of $500 will be for best PhD poster and best postgraduate (Honours, Masters, etc) poster. This is an opportunity for students to present their proposals on current research studies to a range of students and researchers from across our centre. We will accept posters which have previously been presented at a conference.


Students need to meet the eligibility criteria for their application to be accepted:

Centre Member Poster Session

This second poster session will be an opportunity for Centre Members to present their current research studies to other Centre Members at the workshop. We will accept posters which have previously been presented at a conference.
