Date : 24th of July 2017, 1:00PM until 2:00PM

Previous studies have suggested that the exposure to prenatal testosterone may be associated with cognitive masculinisation among individuals with autism. Testosterone is also known to exert masculinising effects on facial morphology. This converging evidence suggests that the facial structures of individuals with autism may be hypermasculinised. While several studies have provided evidence for the hypermasculinisation account, others presented contrasting findings and proposed that physical features of autism should, instead, be characterised as being androgynous in form. In this talk, I will present three empirical studies exploring the hypermasculinisation and androgyny accounts of autism in relation to facial morphology.
